"Tigers" and "Panthers" with their cannons could strike the Soviet tanks from long distances, when 76-mm weapons of domestic T-34 could effectively fight against German tanks only from 500 - 600 meters (550 - 650 yards) T-34/85, which was developed in 1944, had almost the same working parts and body. However, the constructors have added extra gas tanks on the body, and smoke bombs on the stern. An enlarged turret allowed placing an extremely powerful 85-mm cannon ZIS-S-53, as well as placing the fifth crew in the turret of the tank. The location of the crews inside the tank was as follows: the commander of the tank was to the left and behind of the cannon, navigator to the left and in front of the cannon, loader to the right, mechanic-driver and the gunner-radio man were in the front part of the body of the tank.
